Rick Mousseau

I first picked up a 35mm camera back in high school, I think it was probably a Praktica and got interested enough to do some shooting for the year book and to borrow it for some camping trips.  Saving through the summer I bought my 1st camera which was an amazing piece of technology, the Canon A1.  To this day I have remained with Canon, but evolving through a multitude of different bodies and lenses.

For me, it was never originally all about the photography, but about nature and the outdoors itself.  Photography allowed me many new directions to enjoy my passion for nature.

The old expression “Stop and smell the roses” truly encompasses what photography has allowed me to experience with nature.  I now (and still do) had a new reason to really pause, look, and importantly, see, the beauty that nature provided.  Most people would probably get bored with me on a photographic trip, as I may end up sitting for hours by the side of a pond, just ‘being’ there.  Absorbing the mood, atmosphere and all the location has to offer.  By becoming ‘one’ with your surroundings you get to experience many new things you wouldn’t be able to by just a quick hike down a trail.  My experience is most wildlife, insects and birds will accept you to the extent they feel comfortable, once you are seen as non threatening.

Today my thrill is being able to share those experiences to viewers through my images.  To capture that special light on a landscape, the delicate beauty of a flower, that glimpse into the world of an animal’s life.  Enjoy, love and respect all that nature has to offer.  Thank you for joining me on this journey.
